The Hospital–University Model: A Strategic Foundation

Vinmec and VinUni have been strategically developed by Vingroup under a healthcare–academic alliance model designed to closely integrate clinical practice, scientific research, and medical education. The shared goal is to enhance healthcare quality and build an internationally benchmarked academic medical model in Vietnam. Since 2019, the two institutions have formalized their collaboration through a Strategic Alliance Agreement, establishing the Hospital–University model based on strategic partnership and effective resource allocation. Vinmec contributes its modern healthcare infrastructure and a network of leading physicians and specialists from Vietnam and abroad, continuously standardizing and enhancing clinical capacity in alignment with international standards and local healthcare needs. VinUni serves as the academic nucleus, with its research and teaching systems developed according to international standards and a globally recruited faculty of scholars and scientists. This strong foundation accelerates the translation of discoveries from laboratory to clinical practice, ensuring that research advancements are rapidly applied to patient care and real-world medical settings. The Hospital–University model is implemented through extensive and in-depth collaboration across multiple domains.

In education, Vinmec and VinUni jointly develop advanced medical training programs, in which physicians and specialists from the hospital system actively participate in teaching and mentoring students. Appointing practicing clinicians as faculty members strengthens the connection between theory and real-world practice and ensures that students gain early exposure to modern clinical thinking at Vinmec.

In clinical training and workforce development, Vinmec serves as the principal teaching hospital of VinUni. Medical students gain direct exposure to an internationally accredited healthcare environment, enabling them to develop professional competencies and a deeper understanding of real-world treatment pathways. The two institutions also collaborate in training nurses, residents, and medical specialists, contributing high-quality healthcare professionals aligned with Vietnam’s needs and global healthcare trends.

In scientific research, VinUni and Vinmec collaborate on highly translational research projects, particularly in priority areas such as oncology, cardiology, neurology, musculoskeletal medicine, sports medicine, stem cell therapy, and genomic technologies. The integration of academic excellence and clinical expertise enables research findings to be rigorously tested, evaluated, and translated into clinical applications, thereby improving treatment effectiveness and patient care outcomes.

Clinical trials conducted within the Vinmec Healthcare System are managed, monitored, and operationally supported by the Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) of VinUniversity. The CTU operates in accordance with ICH-GCP guidelines and strictly complies with regulations issued by the Ministry of Health of Vietnam. It works in direct coordination with GCP-certified Vinmec hospitals to implement clinical trials. Through the CTU, Vinmec–VinUni not only strengthens research capacity but also standardizes operational processes to ensure participant safety; strict adherence to approved protocols, study documents, and regulatory requirements; and the accuracy, reliability, and transparency of research data. This represents a significant step toward positioning Vietnam as a trusted partner for clinical trials in the region and globally.
